Is God Good?
No Fear
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. (I don’t lack anything) 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. 3 He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. 4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. 5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies, My cup overflows. 6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Psalm 23: 1 – 6 (ESV)
Why I don’t need to fear the future:
1. Because God’s goodness follows me.
Psalm 23: 6 (ESV) Surely goodness...shall follow me all the days of my life
Psalm 91: 11 (ESV) For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.
Romans 8: 28 (ESV) ... we know that for those who love God all things work together for good...
2. Because God’s grace is at work in me.
Psalm 23: 6 (ESV) Surely... mercy...shall follow me all the days of my life
Isaiah 60: 10 (NLT) I will now have mercy on you through my grace.
Psalm 103: 2 - 13 (NLT) Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things he does for me. 3 He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases. 4 He redeems me from death and crowns me with love and tender mercies. 5 He fills my life with good things. My youth is renewed like the eagle’s! 6 The Lord gives righteousness and justice to all who are treated unfairly. 7 He revealed his character to Moses and his deeds to the people of Israel. 8 The Lord is compassionate and merciful, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. 9 He will not constantly accuse us, nor remain angry forever. 10 He does not punish us for all our sins; he does not deal harshly with us, as we deserve. 11 For his unfailing love toward those who fear him is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth. 12 He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west. 13 The Lord is like a father to his children, tender and compassionate to those who fear him.
Hebrews 4: 16 (NLT) ..let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.
3. Because God’s glory is waiting for me.
Psalm 23: 6 (ESV) ...I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
Romans 9: 23 (NLT) He does this to make the riches of his glory shine even brighter on those to whom he shows mercy, who were prepared in advance for glory.
