Kill ‘em With Kindness

1 Thessalonians 5: 15 (NLT) See that no one pays back evil for evil, but always try to do good to each other and to all people.

Colossians 3: 12 (ESV) Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience.

Philippians 4: 5 (NASB)  Let your gentle spirit be known to all men. The Lord is near.

Kindness is a manifestation of love.

The Story of the Good Samaritan

Luke 10: 25 – 37

3 common attitudes toward people:

1. Stay clear.

Luke 10: 30 & 31 (ESV)  Jesus replied, “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and he fell among robbers, who stripped him and beat him and departed, leaving him half dead. 31 Now by chance a priest was going down that road, and when he saw him he passed by on the other side.

2.  Curious, but uncaring.

Luke 10: 32 (ESV)  So likewise a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side.

3. Demonstrate kindness.

Luke 10: 33 (ESV) But a Samaritan, as he journeyed, came to where he was, and when he saw him, he had compassion.

The path to becoming a kinder person:

1. See the needs of the people around me.

Luke 10 33 (ESV)     … when he saw him…

1 Corinthians 10: 24 (NLT) Don’t be concerned for your own good but for the good of others.

2. Feel their pain.

Luke 10 33 (ESV)   … he had compassion.

A Paradigm Shift:

Don’t Ask:  What’s wrong with them?

Do Ask:  What happened to them?

Galatians 6: 2 (NLT) Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ.

3. Take action.

Luke 10: 34 (ESV) He went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring on oil and wine.

Galatians 6: 10 (ESV)  …as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.

Proverbs 3: 27 & 28 (ESV) Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due, when it is in your power to do it. 28 Do not say to your neighbor, “Go, and come again tomorrow I will give it”—when you have it with you.

4. Be generous.

Luke 10: 34 & 35 (ESV) …Then he set him on his own animal and brought him to an inn and took care of him. 35 And the next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper, saying, ‘Take care of him, and whatever more you spend, I will repay you when I come back.’

Luke 10: 36 & 37 (ESV) Which of these three, do you think, proved to be a neighbor to the man who fell among the robbers?” 37 He said, “The one who showed him mercy.” And Jesus said to him, “You go, and do likewise.”

Proverbs 19: 17 (ESV) Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will repay him for his deed.
