Fruit of the Flesh II - Part B

What are the Fruits of the Flesh

We have two natures:

1.               Sinful nature

2.               Spirit (Holy Spirit) nature

A continuous, life-long war between our flesh and the Spirit.

Galatians 5: 21 (NLT)

When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, 21 envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.

Proverbs 11: 22 (NLT)

A beautiful woman who lacks discretion is like a gold ring in a pig’s snout.

1.               Sexual Immorality (porneia)

2.               Impurity (akatharisia)

Colossians 3: 5 (NLT)

So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don’t be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world.

Debauchery  (aselgeia)

2 Corinthians 12: 21 (NLT)

Yes, I am afraid that when I come again, God will humble me in your presence. And I will be grieved because many of you have not given up your old sins. You have not repented of your impurity, sexual immorality, and eagerness for lustful pleasure.

1 Corinthians 6: 9 – 11 (NLT)

Don’t you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God?  Don’t fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality, 10 or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat people — none of these will inherit the Kingdom of God.  11 Some of you were once like that. But you were cleansed; you were made holy; you were made right with God by calling on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

2 Corinthians 8: 7 (NLT)

Since you excel in so many ways — in your faith, your gifted speakers, your knowledge, your enthusiasm, and your love from us-I want you to excel also in this gracious act of giving.

1 Corinthians 7: 1 (NLT)

Because we have these promises, dear friends, let us cleanse ourselves from everything that can defile our body or spirit. And let us work toward complete holiness because we fear God.
