Fruit of the Flesh VI
What are the Fruits of the Flesh?
We have two natures:
1. Sinful nature
2. Spirit (Holy Spirit) nature
A continuous, life-long war between our flesh and the Spirit.
Galatians 5: 19 - 21 (NLT)
When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, 21 envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.
Sins of Animosity
10. Dissentions – dichostasia
Introducing divisive teachings not supported by Scripture.
Romans 16: 17 & 18 (NLT)
And now I make one more appeal, my dear brothers and sisters. Watch out for people who cause divisions and upset people’s faith by teaching things contrary to what you have been taught. Stay away from them. 18 Such people are not serving Christ our Lord; they are serving their own personal interests. By smooth talk and glowing words they deceive innocent people.
Galatians 5: 13 - 15 (NLT)
For you have been called to live in freedom, my brothers and sisters. But don’t use your freedom to satisfy your sinful nature. Instead, use your freedom to serve one another in love. 14 For the whole law can be summed up in this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” 15 But if you are always biting and devouring one another, watch out! Beware of destroying one another.
11. Factions – hairesis = Heresy
Division within the congregation into selfish groups or cliques that destroy church unity.
1 Corinthians 11: 17 - 19 (NLT)
…I cannot praise you. For it sounds as if more harm than good is done when you meet together. 18 First, I hear that there are divisions among you when you meet as a church, and to some extent I believe it. 19 But, of course, there must be divisions among you so that you who have God’s approval will be recognized!
12. Envy – phthonos
Resentful dislike of another person who has something that one desires.
