Fruit of the Flesh VII
What are the Fruits of the Flesh?
We have two natures:
1. Sinful nature
2. Spirit (Holy Spirit) nature
A continuous, life-long war between our flesh and the Spirit.
Galatians 5: 19 - 21 (NLT)
When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, 21 envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.
Sins of Intemperance
13. Drunkenness – methē
Impairing one’s mental or physical control through alcohol consumption.
1 Corinthians 8: 9 - 13 (NLT)
But you must be careful so that your freedom does not cause others with a weaker conscience to stumble. 10 For if others see you —with your “superior knowledge” — eating in the temple of an idol, won’t they be encouraged to violate their conscience by eating food that has been offered to an idol? 11 So because of your superior knowledge, a weak believer for whom Christ died will be destroyed. 12 And when you sin against other believers by encouraging them to do something they believe is wrong, you are sinning against Christ. 13 So if what I eat causes another believer to sin, I will never eat meat again as long as I live — for I don’t want to cause another believer to stumble.
1 Corinthians 8: 1, 12, 19, 22 (NLT)
Am I not free? Am I not an apostle? Have I not seen Jesus our Lord? 12But we did not use this right. On the contrary, we put up with anything rather than hinder the gospel of Christ. 19 Though I am free and belong to no one, I have made myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible.
22 …I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some.
14. Orgies – kōmos
Excessive feasting and revelry; a party spirit involving alcohol, drugs, sex, etc.
Galatians 5: 21 (NLT)
… and other sins like these.
